I recently had problems with my Windows sound. I have absolutely no problem playing music in iTunes or movies with WMP, but suddenly the sound system is the standard Windows (Log in / out, Exclamation errors, etc.) I can still my choice, because the device uses play midi to initiate changes and to close when you opened the window again be an arbitrary choice.
